Resources, education, and licensing for JSC coaches

Youth Trainer Pass

The NJYS Youth Trainer program identifies individuals who are reliable, interested in helping children, and want to serve as Youth Trainers assisting adult coaches during practices and games.

  • The Youth Trainer program exists because an individual under 18 years of age may not hold a USYS Coach's Pass. The Youth Trainer pass allows younger volunteers to assist on the field legitimately.
  • A Youth Trainer must be at least 14 years old and no older than 18 years old as of September 1 of the current seasonal year.
  • Must complete the NJYS State "F" Certificate / State Certificate course.
  • Must complete CDC Concussion Awareness certification and keep a copy of the certificate available.
  • Must complete a medical waiver certification.
  • Requires written parental permission to participate in the program.
  • A Youth Trainer may not be listed on the game-day roster, but may be present in the team's bench area.
  • An adult coach must always be supervising and leading during any training event or game — a Youth Trainer may never run a session alone.
